Zuckerberg said on his Facebook page that his company’s new mission is to “give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.” […] Zuckerberg said in February he wanted to boost the number of Facebook users who are members of what they called “very meaningful” groups. Only about 5 percent were members of such groups, he said then.
Reuters reports that Facebook is tweaking its mission to focus on groups, the Facebook feature that creates online communities. This is an excellent choice, as it is well known that building online communities increases stickiness. This allows Facebook to try to dissuade people from leaving it for new social networks.
